There's a great article titled “…Another Pay For (CEO) Failure Package” by Matt over at the Blown Mortgage Blog. In it he discusses how some of the head honcho's in the national mortgage scene are being compensated ridiculously for losing money and fleecing shareholders.
From a small business perspective it's interesting because essentially we are the shareholders. There's pretty much a built in code of corporate responsibility because our livelihood depends on it. There is no tomorrow if we are careless. This is probably why we've seen a lot of small shops disappear in the midst of the mortgage shakeup. Large scale or small scale, the ethics should be the same. Unfortunately, the true vested interests are different and along with that comes the entitlement and greed of millions of dollars in compensation.
As a small business there is less of a buffer from reality than in a large company. You can't hide the truth. Here's to corporate responsibility seeing some improvements in 2008!
