In Light Of The Ted Kennedy Brain Cancer Diagnosis

Seeing as though Senator Kennedy's recent brain cancer diagnosis has been hitting the wires, I thought I'd take a moment and share why I've been on hiatus from the blog. My father was diagnosed with brain cancer last May and passed away in March of this year. There is no cure for this type of brain cancer and it has devastating effects on it's victims. It's my hope that Senator Kennedy's battle will bring some much needed attention to Brain Cancer Research. At present the gold standard of care generally buys a few months of life and with that being said the quality is generally not very good. Having witnessed the effects of this disease first-hand, I would just say that this cancer is not like others. Patients often lose the ability to put their thoughts together, to speak, to use extremities, to walk, to go to the bathroom, to swallow - all cancer is devastating, but primary brain cancer takes away everything from it's victims. At times through my fathers battle, all we had was hope and eventually it even takes that.
